Explore the Gotthard area: Sasso San Gottardo

Located at the summit of the Gotthard Pass, and just a short distance from Andermatt is where you will find one of the region’s most intriguing attractions. Sasso San Gottardo is a brand new themed exhibition, housed in the atmospheric tunnels and rock caves of a former fortress.

The exhibition and attraction extending over a distance of almost two kilometres, focuses on the challenges of managing natural resources. This innovative project has been developed by both business partners and scientists and it takes a look at the past, the future and the importance of sustainability.

With interactive experiences centred around the themes of water, climate, mobility and living space, energy and security, there are five family friendly exhibits to explore. There’s also the opportunity to take a look at the giant crystals of the Planggenstock, known as “the mountain’s gift.”

In addition to the interactive exhibition, for the very first time visitors can also explore the historic “Sasso da Pigna” fortifications, a protected monument and living testament to the former artillery installations from the Second World War.

There is also the opportunity to discover the background surrounding the construction and everyday life within this historic fortress.
