Andermatt: A Valentine’s Day retreat

In today’s fast-paced world, one of the most precious things a couple can share is quality time together, without any distractions. While that may seem an impossible dream amidst the bustle of day-to-day life, it’s at the very heart of what makes Andermatt so special – meaning there’s no better place to enjoy Valentine’s Day.

Andermatt Swiss Alps is a complete retreat from the hectic outside world. In our valley, protected by stunning snow-capped peaks, the air is pure, the pace of life is as it should be – and perhaps rarest and most precious of all is the incredible quiet and stillness. Here, there’s no roar of traffic, sirens, or machinery to disturb you.

Then there’s the Alpine landscape all around. There’s something about the crisp snow and brisk air that makes cuddling up together all the more inviting, whether that’s on a ski lift on your way to take in unforgettable views, or with a warming drink at one of the village’s cosy bars and restaurants.

To explore the snow-capped village and its surrounds in old-fashioned glamour and comfort, what could be more romantic than a sleigh-ride?

Whether your idea of the perfect day together means racing each other down your favourite black run or strolling the streets of Andermatt, you can round things off with a romantic diner à deux in one of the local restaurants. For Swiss-style fine dining, make a reservation at The River House’s elegant restaurant or for something a little more rustic why not try Bären. Alternatively, for a traditional Swiss meal that was designed for sharing, head to Ochsen for their legendary fondue.

Whatever you do, we wish you a very happy Valentine’s Day.
