“A Swiss ski resort awakens – Andermatt has a saviour set on reinventing it. Andermatt’s natural setting is exquisite, the surrounding mountains jostling in so tightly that it’s a wonder the town’s small stream can pick a way through them. The centrepiece of the renovation project is the Chedi Andermatt hotel and it’s residences. I was shown into one of its more basic rooms, a sumptuous oriental style cabin with walls clad in dark wood. It had animal skin thrown on the bed, a native art style rug on the floor, an in-and-out fireplace (to heat not just the room but also the balcony), plus the full panoply of mod cons”.
