Winter trends 2013/14: Stylish sportswear in Andermatt

The world of fashion is always one step ahead. While we might still be enjoying the best of the Winter 2012/13 season on the Andermatt slopes, for fashionistas it’s already time to start planning their outfits for Winter 2013/14.

What are the top trends to look out for? What should you save from this year’s wardrobe, and what should be put to the back of the closet until its time comes again?

Sporthaus AG is Andermatt’s leading sportswear boutique, and its fashion buyer, Ursina Portmann, is responsible for translating high-end trends into wearable and practical collections.

Next season, I’m excited to see fresh, vibrant colours making a comeback in sportswear,” she told us. ‘Winter 2013/14 will be exceptionally colourful, with turquoise, pink and purple key colours for women, and royal blue, yellow, orange and green reoccurring time and time again in menswear.”

The return of bright colours is an extension of the 90s revival that’s got the fashion world in a whirl this season. To really work this trend, it’s not enough to pick just one bright colour – you need to mix and match several in one garment, let alone one outfit. Don’t be afraid to clash – try orange with pink, or green with yellow. “Everything is possible!” adds Portmann.

Unsurprisingly, the girls from top brand Roxy’s snow team are already ahead of the trend. If you need inspiration on how to work the new colour-blocking, their blog is a good place to start.

Above all, however – fashion aside – your main concern on the slopes should always be safety and warmth. Use Snow + Rock’s guide to layering to remind yourself of the basics. Portmann is a fan of Active Shell from GORE-TEX, citing its high breathability. She also recommends natural fabrics such as merino wool, particularly when it comes to accessories and insulating layers.

If there’s one message to take away for next season, it’s that this isn’t a year to be afraid of standing out on the slopes.
