To provide you with a little seasonal inspiration we’ve collated a few of our not-to-be-missed activities for Autumn 2013.
For those fond of the traditional beer festival, you will not be disappointed this season. Zurich’s Oktoberfest starts 11th October and is an event not to be missed.
A tradition since 1995, Zurich plays host to over 40,000 revelers over this period, with an astonishing 80,000 litres of beer being drunk and 1.7 tonnes of sauerkraut being consumed. The tent, which is decorated in the traditional Bavarian colours, is open daily from 11.00 AM for music and merriment. To see images from last year’s festival check out their gallery pages.
Another well know beer festival is in in Altdorf. In attendance at this year’s Altdorf festival was the Wetterschmöker (weather prophet). A Swiss tradition, he is an old farmer from central Switzerland who can predict next year’s winter weather through reading signs in nature.
From August to November, this annual event sees the Adventure Farm in Seegräben transformed into pumpkin paradise. This year’s theme is ‘Royal Pumpkins’, which can be seen clearly in the sculpted look-a-like Royal pumpkins, that greet you upon arrival. Key dates for the diary include: September 21st, which is the day of the legendary pumpkin regatta, 26th/27th September when the pumpkin-carving king Ray Villafane will be flying in from the USA to be a special guests, and October 26th when they celebrate Family Halloween Day.
Held every year at the end of September, this year’s event runs from the 26th September – 6th October. An exciting and highly anticipated event, it promises to showcase the best in film talent from across the globe and the rising stars of the industry. This year is no exception, as Harrison Ford will not only be collecting his award but also showcasing his new film. Also in attendance at this year’s event will be Swiss director Marc Foster, who is leading the panel of judges.
