Shopping in Zurich

Zurich is the shopping hub of Switzerland with a host of luxury and international brands. Bahnhofstrasse is well known around the globe as one of the most exclusive and expensive shopping streets in the world and for Swiss and urban design, there is plenty of smaller, boutique stores to explore.

The 1.4 kilometre Bahnhofstrasse street leads from the main railway station to the lake and is mostly a pedestrian area. Luxury brands are situated here and shoppers can find jewellery, watches and designer boutiques as well as the big department stores Jelmoli, Globus and Manor. Jewellery lovers won’t want to miss dropping by the Louis Vuitton store, nor leave without having taken a look at the diamonds from Tiffany and Gubelin and the sparkle of Swarovski crystals. A visit to this famous street is a must for every shopping fan. Visitors must wander into the side streets as well, where shops are no less luxurious and some more unusual little gems are hidden.

Another region worth heading to is within the Old Town; Niederdorf, east of the River Limmat. Along the Limmatquai and Niederdorf streets visitors will find smaller shops with contemporary street wear, fancy shoes and fashion stores. The Old Town in general provides some more tradition and genuine Swiss stores, such as toy, cutlery and souvenir shops (Teddy’s is renowned). Come night time, this area is transformed with people spilling out from the many bars and restaurants.

Good to note that all shops are closed on Sundays except at the railway stations. For hotels nice and close to these great areas, click here.
