The mountain lakes of the Uri highlands are meeting competition

The mountain lakes of the Gotthard region are unique: deep blue, crystal clear, simply beautiful. But they are also icy cold. That’s why swimming in the mountain lakes of Uri is definitely for the venturesome only.

For everyone else, our Managing Director Robert Fellermeier shared some good news last Tuesday. Speaking to a full house in the Boden School auditorium he reported to the Andermatt public that construction of the planned indoor pool facility will begin two years earlier than originally anticipated – great news for every resident of the Uri high valley who has been missing the pleasure of a nearby place to swim.

That’s all changing now. Soon, water sport enthusiasts will be able to indulge in their hobby in a generous 25-metre pool with four lanes. And there will be a paddling pool for children and a special pool for non-swimmers.

In terms of sports, the region is already known today for the National Biathlon Centre in Realp, the bobsled track in Andermatt and Andermatt-Sedrun ski destination. The indoor pool will greatly enhance this sports offering. Whether for swimming lessons, aqua fit, or underwater rugby, the pool facility will offer many new sports opportunities – as well as training possibilities, because under the same roof there will also be a large fitness room and sauna. Who knows? Maybe after Bernhard Russi we will soon have a Michael Phelps from Andermatt.

The indoor pool facility is scheduled to open in 2017. But if Chairman of the Board Samih Sawiris gets his way, Andermatt residents will be taking out their swimming suits even sooner. The Construction Department has their work cut out for them.
