Winter fun in Andermatt
The winter season of Andermatt Ice Park, located at the large car park at the village entrance, is starting just in time for the holidays. Lots of fun and good entertainment are guaranteed on and off the ice rink – your host Joern Rothe and his team see to that daily from 9 am to midnight. A colourful mix of guests is typical for Andermatt, and Joern says the Ice Park is no exception: “In the mornings school classes from the region are on the ice, at noon workers enjoy their lunch break here, and in the afternoon guests and locals share the ice”. In the evening the action gradually shifts from the ice to the relaxed sports bar. The bar is housed in a wooden chalet, quite fitting for the high-alpine Urseren Valley. Joern Rothe proudly tells about the origin of this chalet, as “60 tonnes of Swiss timber was used to build it”. This is already the fourth season in which Joern Rothe is attracting Andermatt locals and their guests to the ice rink with the diversified programme “On the Ice”, he tells with a wink in his eye. “Every year I look forward not only to offering the guests an ice rink but also to bringing them into closer touch with the region.”
Those who want it less slippery under foot can enjoy the many slopes of Andermatt-Sedrun ski destination, where the snow bars and restaurants are popular meeting places that are just as lively. And last but not least, genuine Andermatt winter fun is also to be found in the snow-blanketed village, in one of the many restaurants or bars. And here, Andermatt has recently become one après-ski attraction richer: To cap off your action-packed day on the slopes in style, you can enjoy a drink at the Ski Bar of the newly opened The Chedi Andermatt. Thanks to the entrance directly at the Andermatt train station, the bar is very easy to reach for everyone.
The mountain restaurant Milez, in the middle of the Andermatt-Sedrun ski destination, is a place where you are sure to experience a highlight of winter fun. On New Year’s Eve the Milez invites you to a delicious six-course dinner followed by a New Year’s aperitif, all within a breath-taking mountain setting. After midnight, you will enjoy the valley run on illuminated slopes – and thus are sure to be one of the first people on the slopes in 2014.
