Winter wonderland Andermatt

“The winter season in Andermatt, where plentiful snowfall is certain, is always a highlight for me,” says Flurin Riedi, Tourism Manager at the Andermatt Holiday Region. “We have already had a successful start with a very early opening of the ski area, and we are convinced that again this season winter wonderland Andermatt will delight the snow enthusiasts.” Andermatt offers much more than just the Gemsstock, which is highly popular especially with freeriders. “As a cross-country skier, I am particularly fond of the cross-country trails. We have improved the routes this year, so that there are fewer crossings with winter footpaths.” The trails extend throughout the entire Urseren Valley. So, cross-country fans enjoy not only the sporting aspect but also the visual treat: the raw landscape is transformed – softened by the snow.

“Amongst the new offerings, I am excited about the fondue dinner under the stars: It starts with snowshoe trekking, and then – when you feel like you are totally cut off from civilisation – a delicious fondue is prepared.” This and other novelties are evidence of a young and innovative team. The staff at Andermatt-Ursern Valley Tourism is continually creating new and attractive offerings in collaboration with enterprises throughout the valley. As a tourist destination in the mountains, it’s clear that we’re talking about active recreation. But the team is also greatly expanding the range of opportunities for relaxation.

“Not all of our guests want to be out and about in the snow, so we have expanded our cultural offerings too. We are conducting “Unplugged on Tour” for the second time now. This March the two-day music festival “AndermattLive!” will take place. And we are especially pleased that next Easter a classical Easter festival – the Swiss Chamber Music Circle – will be held in Andermatt. So we are hoping to make the destination better known to a different segment of the public too.” If even concerts are too lively for somebody, they can choose the peacefulness of a horse-drawn sleigh ride through the snow-covered countryside. The richly diversified offerings of the Andermatt Holiday Region are published online and as a brochure.

Flurin Riedi, Tourism Manager at the Andermatt Holiday Region, has one very favourite event: “My personal highlight? Of course that would be New Year’s Eve sledging in Hospental with the various bars and the fireworks show at midnight.”
