New life in Andermatt
Andermatt is becoming ever more fascinating. You can see this just by strolling through the village. Again this season, a number of new shops and restaurants have opened their doors.
A touch of luxury and skilled handcraft from Switzerland and around the world is what you’ll find at „La Boutique“. Bags and baskets from Bolivia, cashmere blankets from Italy, arty glass vases from Denmark, hand-woven pillows and blankets from Bosnia, and much more. Goya Gallagher-Sawiris is delighting customers also with exquisite pieces of jewellery from around the world. “Of course we are happy to have customers dropping in already now, although the grand opening will take place in February”, says Store Manager Astrid Nager Staub.
Nadia Romano Prandi has also taken the step to open her own shop. In „41 Wein und Tee Haus“ (wine and tea house), she sells selected wines, teas and Ticino specialities. “The Urseren Valley is a fascinating area, one in which the four rivers Ticino, Reuss, Rhone and Rhine spring, so I have made this a theme in my wine collection. In my shop you’ll find fine wines from Ticino, Grisons, Valais and Uri,” she tells.
If you’re looking for a gift to bring along on your next visit to friends, you’re sure to find just the right thing at the flower and gift shop „fiori andermatt“. Elisabeth Rüegg has always missed a shop of this kind in Andermatt – so she opened one herself. “I love working with flowers. I also sell handcrafted items made by creative farmers’ wives in the region.” Whether a single red rose to say “I love you” or a beautiful handmade piece for your best friend, there is something here for everyone.
„ANNEHOUSE MOUNTAIN Boutique“ celebrated its grand opening last December. “Our love of the mountains brought us here – and the wild-romantic and rustic charm of the Urseren Valley,” says the owner pair Anne and Roland Baumgartner. Besides selected women’s and men’s fashion, including pieces from its own collection, the boutique offers original furnishings and its own jewellery in silver and gold.
Expect culinary delight when you enter Restaurant Crown. Chef Xaver Krause and his team pamper guests with a special style of fine dining. “We insist on using select, high-quality products from the region – so that we can also preserve local authenticity,” explains Hotel Director Christian Meier. After your delicious dinner, savour the evening in the bar/lounge with a relaxing nightcap while the fire crackles in the fireplace.
