Andermatt Swiss Alps

“We love the untouched nature”

Giovanni and his family are from Milan. Four years ago, they learned about Andermatt Swiss Alps from a magazine article. “Back then, The Chedi Andermatt was still under construction. We really liked the project and started following the building process”, tells Giovanni. In June 2013 the time was right and he got in touch with a sales executive at Andermatt Swiss Alps. “First we were looking at the Gotthard Residences, which are about to be built, but then we found out that there was still a flat available in apartment house Gemse. Even though the building was in progress already, we got our apartment just in time to have the interior done the way we wanted.”

They didn’t have to wait long to spend their first vacation in their new apartment. “One of the happiest moments was when we got the keys on December 23. Everything was ready and the apartment was beautifully arranged. There was a blanket on the sofa, cosy pillows, the kitchen was ready for cooking – it was everything we had hoped for. We spent our entire Christmas holiday at our new place.” Giovanni and his family come to Andermatt often for the weekend. Being close to Milan, it takes them only two hours by car. “In no time we are far away from the big city and in the middle of this great, untouched, rugged natural landscape.”

The family has fallen in love with the view in Andermatt. “It’s unique to be up in the mountains but still have the flat valley. And the village is very picturesque and has kept its relaxed and honest roots. We often go for long walks with our dog in the snow over the golf course. And the ski bus stops just outside our door. For us it’s perfect!”

Their apartment in Gemse is a dream come true for the Italian family. “But getting it was a bit of an adventure”, laughs Giovanni. “One of the challenges was the language. Most of the contracts and official papers are in German. And we dealt in English with Antje Schumann from Andermatt Swiss Alps – she was in charge of all the changes we wanted in our flat. She has always been extremely supportive, offering us different alternatives and helping us to make our final choice. Looking at the result I think we did quite well.”
