A magical night that can be addictive
“The night holds very special magic”, enthuses Andermatt Tourism Director Flurin Riedi. No wonder, then, that the various winter night events in the winter adventure program of Holiday Region Andermatt enjoy great popularity. The events range from Museum Night to a snowshoe tour in the dark, night sledging on Nätschen and SnowNight in Sedrun, where the Milez-Dieni slope and the Milez-Rueras toboggan run are illuminated every Thursday night till 10:30 pm.
“Unfortunately, this fantastic SnowNight is beyond the reach of Andermatt guests”, regrets Riedi. “The last train over the Oberalp Pass runs at about 7 pm – right when the night skiing fun is really just beginning”, explains the tourism director. But the destination Andermatt-Sedrun, with the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn (MGB) as the central link, is growing together not only in the ski area. Marketing ideas too are being increasingly interwoven. One of the many results of this is a premiere that can make one addictive, such as one Thursday evening in late February: For the first time, at the end of Sedrun SnowNight an MGB special train ran from the valley station in Dieni back to Andermatt.
And so, for once there was bustling activity at Dieni station after 10 pm. Because nearly 150 snow sports fans from the Uri side, mainly from Andermatt, took this special night train back over the Oberalp Pass. Thanks to the good collaboration among all the service providers and the special efforts of the MGB train crew, they were able to enjoy SnowNight in Sedrun for the first time. Not only were snowboarders and skiers on the slopes, the toboggan run was also intensively used. The mood on the chair lift was as cheerful as in the restaurants and on the special train.
The starry night and the excellent skiing conditions made the evening a pure delight for the snow sports enthusiasts.
Patrick Widmer, Golf Director at Andermatt, enjoyed the open space on the powdery slopes. But still, he took it easy: “The cheerful atmosphere, almost magical light and the slightly eerie darkness on the edge of the slope made for a more relaxed experience than during the day.” So there were always stimulating and surprising encounters and conversations with newly met skiers. Widmer sums up: “The magic of this night in the snow makes you want more!”
