Schneefalke rises skyward
“Schneefalke will look very different than the other buildings standing here. It will have a modern look with a dark through-coloured wood shingle façade and a stone base”, explains Antje Schumann, Senior Project Manager responsible for the apartment buildings of Andermatt Swiss Alps AG. Together with the joint-venture partner Swiss Property, she chose a large, robust wooden shingle that gives the building a distinguished appearance. “But of course that alone is not enough; the shingles must be able to withstand all kinds of weather-related exposure. Over a 24-hour period, we may see a temperature swing of up to 30 degrees Celsius in Andermatt.” The stone for the façade must also meet high standards. The granite chosen is “Nero assoluto”.
This granite is also used for the interior of the building. “Indoors, we have adopted the alpine character of the surrounding region. The floors are oak, some of the walls are wood panelling in white, light grey or anthracite, and in the bathrooms we plan to use “Nero assoluto” in very large sizes. In fact, the bathrooms will have very few joints and will feature plenty of niches that provide shelf space.” Buyers may also choose to have their bathroom or guest bathroom finished in white marble as an alternative.
“It’s important to us and to our partner Swiss Property that we offer good products. That’s why we decided to work with Gaggenau for the kitchens. They provide modern kitchens that leave no wish unmet.” And if you want to open the blinds or adjust the heating before you arrive at your apartment, you can do this conveniently by mobile phone. The apartments are equipped with the so-called KNX system. The control works via a tablet in the wall or via smartphone. One can easily pre-program the right lighting atmosphere for a romantic evening by the fireplace or ethanol stove, which is integrated into the multimedia wall.
Construction of apartment house Schneefalke started last year. The wooden façade elements of this hybrid structure will be set in place starting mid-June. With this system, the building will be erected within a few days. By the end of August, the roof will be on and the interior works can begin. There will be 19 apartments, ranging in size from 26 m2 to 177 m2. Prices range from CHF 309,000 for the studio to around CHF 2.5 million for a spacious top-floor maisonette. The average apartment measures about 90 m2 and costs just under CHF 1 million.
